Do you have to pay to go to Liberty Island?
Yes. While access to the island and museums is technically free, you must buy a round-trip ferry ticket from Statue City Cruises to get there.
Where does the ferry to the Statue of Liberty leave from?
The official ferry leaves from two locations: Battery Park in lower Manhattan (New York) and Liberty State Park in New Jersey. Both routes stop at both islands.
How long does it take to tour Liberty Island?
Most visitors spend 2 to 3 hours exploring Liberty Island. If you also visit Ellis Island, plan for a total of 4 to 5 hours for the whole trip, including ferry time and security lines.

Yes, but you need a specific Crown Reserve ticket. These tickets sell out months in advance. The climb involves 377 steps and is physically demanding.
Is the Statue of Liberty in New York or New Jersey?
Liberty Island is officially an exclave of New York City. However, it is located within the waters of New Jersey in New York Harbor.
How many steps are in the Statue of Liberty?
There are 377 steps from the ground to the crown. There is no elevator above the pedestal level, so you must be able to climb the stairs independently.

What happens if you miss your Statue of Liberty ferry time?
If you miss your reserved time, you may have to wait in the general admission line or, in peak season, you might be denied entry. Always aim to arrive early for the security check.
Is there food on Liberty Island?
Yes, the Crown Cafe offers snacks, meals, and beverages. There is outdoor seating, but watch out for seagulls if you eat outside.
Is the Statue of Liberty Museum free?
Entry to the Statue of Liberty Museum is included with all ferry tickets. You do not need an extra ticket to go inside and see the exhibits and the original torch.
